Grace Lutheran Church Mission Council

GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH MISSION COUNCIL MINUTES
June 9, 2008

Present were: H. Johs; L. Allemann; K. Janke; L. Magnuson; C. Stolpe; D. Ekberg; L. Mitchell; L. Schardt; N. Endicott; D. Heithold; Elders J. Allemann; D. Nelson; K. Hansen; Pastor Lilienkamp; Pastor Pasche.

Devotions: Pastor Lilienkamp led a devotion based on Psalm 78, concerning the need of spreading God’s words and deeds to the next generation; this is what the Fan Into Flame program is addressing.

The regular business of the council meeting was suspended to give time for discussion between the Elders and the Mission Council on the manner in which Grace should take part in Fan Into Flame. The minutes for the May 12 meeting, and the financial report were submitted and will be addressed at the next Mission Council meeting.

The council and the Elders decided the best way to approach the program would be to establish a committee to coordinate the education of the congregation as to what the Fan Into Flame project is, as well as to implement the fundraising. It was noted that the secretary of the committee would have quite a bit of record keeping to do, such as filling out reports for District and Synod. The ideal committee will have about 4-6 persons. The entire program will only run 12 weeks, but the time allowed for collecting the pledges is 3 years for pledges of $5000 or less, and 5 years for pledges over $5000. This money is to be in addition to a member’s normal contribution. The pledge is paid directly to Synod, and 15% of the money we raise will come back to Grace to be used for a mission project that we ourselves determine. The District has many resources and possible guidelines to get each congregation’s program started.

A list was drawn up of possible committee members. It was decided to have an initial lunch meeting of this group on a Sunday after late church to introduce Fan Into Flame—possibly July 20th. We will ask a representative from the District office to come and present the various resources available to us. A motion to this effect was approved. A motion was also approved to establish a goal of $30,000 to be raised by Grace. Pastor Lilienkamp will send a letter of invitation to the possible members and then an Elder or a member of the Mission Council will contact each of them.

NEW BUSINESS

915 Main Street: Our offer of $35,000 is still awaiting action by the current owner.

Pre-school Carpet: D. Heithold reported that we received a bid of $494.15 for carpeting from the Final Touch. The floor underneath it was found to be in good shape. The motion to accept this bid passed.

Soil Erosion: It was reported that there is an area on the north side of the building where some of the topsoil has washed away. The trustees will get it fixed.

The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
